Craft Masters, by Michael’s Craft Store

Standard

Hey craft friends! I wanted to let you guys in on the news that I was selected to compete in Craft Masters by Michael’s Craft Store.

I submitted a 30 second video about my favorite craft project about dyeing my own fiber, spinning it into yarn, then knitting it into a baby cardigan.

I’ll be competing against two other local crafters in what I’m calling “Iron Chef for the Creative Types.” There’s going to be mystery items we are mandated to use in our project as well as a time limit. In the end, our work will be judged (by whom I don’t know yet) and then someone will be declared a winner.

Its all very surreal at the moment and I’m really excited to be able to do this. Should be lots and lots of fun!

The taping is on Friday the 13th.

Wish me luck. And, since you’re here, please tell me what some of the most important items in a craft store are that I should remember to pick up on my shopping spree (they allow us time to gather materials from Michael’s before the competition the day of the shoot). Also, if you have links to any really cool craft project ideas, please include those as well. I’ve been scouring Pinterest and the internet in general to try to expose myself to as much as possible. I have no idea what I’m in store for. Something tells me that I’m not going to just be able to knit a hat and win this thing! Plus! I’m not allowed my spinning wheel!!!! GASP!

Sneak Peek of Coffee & Crafts, 11-27-11

Standard

A wonderful friend of mine, Katie Toohil of the Dallas Observer Blog, has kindly consented to be a guest blog contributor.  This time around (little does she know that she’s writing more than just one post, tee hee), she’ll be discussing and bringing deep analysis to the Coffee & Crafts get-together that commenced on the twenty-seventh of November in the year two thousand and eleven.  Here is a picture to “peek” your interest!  (By the way, Katie is the beauty sitting in the middle of the floor, posing for the picture unknowingly.  She’s just that talented folks!)

Some of the girls, sitting around and crafting it up!

Vision in Bloom

Our first official board meeting for Craft Cafe happened today.  Jennifer and Ashley both came with their ideas, their dreams, their visions, and their enthusiasm for this movement.  After two of the fastest hours they had both ever experienced, Craft Cafe, Sweet Palettes (the personal project of Jennifer Brickman), and the Victory Garden (the personal project of Ashley Wolfe) have all begun moving forward.

Upcoming Events:

November 27, 2011 – Coffee and Crafts

Location: Ashley Wolfe’s House
Time: 2:00pm-7:00pm (come and go as you please)
Specifics: Supply Swap – Bring crafting or art supplies you wish to let go of.  You will be able to pick up some new supplies someone else is parting with.  And, BAM!, you have a new project to add to your list.  Any unclaimed supplies will be donated to Craft Cafe’s first charitable craft event at Christ Haven Foster Home.
Amenities: Self-serve coffee bar will be open as well as a bring-your-own-produce juice bar.  Jennifer will bake up some sweet and savory goodies as well.  Please note: The coffee bar and made-from-scratch sweets will only survive with your support.  Please plan on making a contribution to our budding business.
